travel Exploring Arizona My travels got off to a good start this year. I had a work thing in Phoenix this week and as I usually try to do, I managed to take
photography Death Valley These desert vistas absolutely boggle my little mind. Most people come to Las Vegas for the brash, expensive and over the top spectacle. Indeed, it is fun for a night or two. But given the choice between a night in Vegas or another night on those dunes, there's simply no contest.
florida The Key to a Great Weekend That really was a weekend to remember. Cat's birthday happened to conincide with a business trip of mine to Miami. I know, hard life right? I'd visited Miami as a
usa Our State Grading System We've visited so many States now we figured it was time to devise a system to track them.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Yellowstone to Bozeman Don't be in a hurry here. This park demands time. If you give it that you'll have a very rewarding trip here. You never know what will be around the next bend in the road.
usa-roadtrip-2019 The Only Rodeo in Town Neither of us had ever been to a Rodeo before. The child in the seat next to me positively bounced with glee at the possibility of going. So, we did.
usa-roadtrip-2019 The Beartooth Highway Loop The road from the North East entrance leads directly through Lamar Valley. A very famous place in park for watching wildlife.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Bears, Otters, Wolves and Mammoths Wow, what a day. We saw several Bears, an Otter, a Wolfpack (no, not the NC State kind) and Mammoth Springs. It snowed blizzard style, in June.
usa-roadtrip-2019 The Yellowstone Geyser Basins En-route to the West we passed by Old Faithful and the main geyser basins in the park. They are something to behold. Steam emitting from seemingly every orifice the ground has to offer.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone The colourful yellow rocks lining the canyon mark a change in the geology of the area and create the best waterfall I think I've ever seen.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Grand Prismatic Spring and Old Faithful We're thinking that treating the park like it's on Spanish time might be the best approach. Rise early and tourist until lunch, then eat. Sleep off your lunch until around 3 or 4pm at which point you might consider heading out again.
usa-roadtrip-2019 The Grand Tetons An utterly majestic mountain range. Hidden from view until the moment you leave Jackson, at least the route we drove at any rate. Cat's review of them was "short and spiky". I mean, she's not wrong.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Denver to Pinedale, WY The architecture had a certain 'western' feel to it without being obviously a pastiche. A tumultuous thunderstorm (pictured above) made its way across the back of the scene as we hopped out the car for a short walk across a bridge spanning the 12 tracks here at Laramie.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Desert to Alpine Meadows "We were in the desert 6 hours ago" was the often repeated phrase of the day today. Leaving behind Utah and the gorgeous red rocks we headed for the Rocky Mountains.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Canyonlands and Arches A quiet day today with only a light 4-5 hours of touristing. The afternoon today was 38c, far too hot to be out in it so we took the executive decision to nap through it.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Zion, Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef I absolutely love Utah. The red rocks, the vistas and the lack of people. It's just so wonderful and I think all of us had a fantastic, if a little long, day today.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Grand Canyon to Hurricane Vintage road trip day today. Not much planned other than point A and point B and the rest just sort of happens around here.
usa-roadtrip-2019 Vegas to Grand Canyon Wide reaching vistas are the name of the game around these parts. Lots of tumbleweed and horizons that never seem to arrive. God I love the West.
mum-usa-2019 From mountains to coast Mum is coming. I'll be on my way to the airport to go and collect her shortly. Having taking the plunge and emigrated almost exactly 6 months she is the first family member to be able to visit us and I couldn't be more excited.
usa-roadtrip-2018 America is big America, as it turns out, is quite large! This is just the main itinerary from our 2018 USA summer roadtrip. To put this distance into perspective London - Israel is
usa-roadtrip-2018 Do America Comparing August 1999 to June 2018 might seem odd at first but bear with me. In the UK aged 11 we move from Junior School to Secondary School and it's
usa-roadtrip-2018 Denver, CO Denver is a proper crossroads sort of town. While other places we have been all had their own distinct identities Denver didn't seem to. Most of the people who served
usa-roadtrip-2018 Breckenridge to Denver The worst hail storm in 20 years hit Colorado Springs bringing with it baseball sized hail. The storm hit around 1230am and was absolutely fantastic to watch but our hire
usa-roadtrip-2018 The Colorado Rockies I feel like I've waited my whole life to see the Colorado Rockies. We came oh so close last year in Moab but our itinerary took us a different way.
usa-roadtrip-2018 Austin, TX - Colorado Springs, CO (via Amarillo, TX) We only listened to it once, The Tony Christie song I mean. After all, the sun was shining on a Texas Sunday morning as we made our way out of
